Commission a painting
A custom piece, made just for you or your client.
I love commissions. You bring me a wall, a feeling, maybe a color you can't stop thinking about, and I create a painting made for it. Below are answers to the questions I hear most. If yours isn't here, email me. I'm always happy to talk it through.
How it works
1. Say hello
Fill out the form here or email me at hello@jennifersingerart.com. Tell me a little about your space and what draws you to my work.
2. We talk
By phone or in my studio, by appointment. Send me a photo of the wall (a phone photo is perfect) and tell me how you live in the room. From there, we'll agree on the size, the price, and your timeline.
3. We choose your colors
Once we've settled on a palette together, I paint small color studies, 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 inches, so you can see where the piece is headed before I begin the final painting.
4. I paint
A 50% deposit reserves your place on my calendar. You're welcome to visit the studio as often as you like, and if you'd like daily photo and video updates, I'm happy to send them.
5. It comes home
The balance is due when the painting is finished. I deliver it to your space personally, framed or wired and ready to hang, with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
Questions people ask
-
That's where most people start. Tell me which of my pieces you keep coming back to, send me a photo of the room, and we'll figure it out together. You don't need a vision. That's my job.
-
Pricing is based on size. My commissions range from $750 to $7,500+ depending on several factors. Tell me about your wall and your budget, and I'll show you what's possible.
-
Up to about 6 feet. If you have a big empty wall that's been waiting for the right piece, that's my favorite kind of problem.
-
That's up to you. If you have a date in mind, let me know and I'll make sure your painting is ready. If you're in no rush, even better. Larger pieces do need a little more time, so the more notice you can give me, the better.
-
Yes and no. Send me photos of the space, the rug, the fabrics, whatever you're working with, and I'll build a palette that belongs in that room. The color studies let you see it before we commit. What I won't do is match your throw pillows exactly. It's a painting, not a paint chip.
-
It'll feel related, but it won't be a copy. I strip layers back with a sander as I work, and I never know exactly what's going to appear underneath. That's the part I love. If there's a piece of mine you can't stop looking at, tell me, and we'll use it as a starting point.
-
Absolutely, and I'd love to. Many of my paintings include vintage paper: 1940s Fortune magazines and Haggadahs from the 1950s through the 1970s. If you have something meaningful, a letter, a recipe card, a page from a family book, we can build it right into the painting.
-
As often as you'd like. You're welcome in the studio anytime by appointment, and I'm happy to send photos and video every day if you want to follow along.
-
A 50% deposit to begin, and the balance when the painting is finished. I accept cash or credit cards.
-
I prefer my paintings framed. A frame is like the right pair of shoes with an outfit: it finishes the look. I always recommend MCM Fine Framing in Bucktown. If you'd rather go without, that's fine. I'll wire the painting so it's ready to hang.
-
Absolutely. My studio is in Oak Park, Illinois, and visits are by appointment. Just email me to set up a time.
-
Yes. If you’re local to Chicago, I deliver every commission to your space myself, and if you'd like help hanging it, I'll take care of that too. Or I can deliver anywhere in the world.
Ready? Tell me about your wall.
Photos of the space are a big help. Email them to hello@jennifersingerart.com after you submit the form.
