Artistic Statement

Painting allows me to breathe on an entirely different level. My practice is rooted in a visceral engagement with materials, driven by an ongoing exploration of texture, scale, and color theory. By building up heavy paint applications with plaster, gouache, powdered pigments, and crushed Sedona rocks, I create dynamic, tactile surfaces. This additive process is met with a destructive one: using an electric sander, I strip away layers of paint and historical paperwork. This act of unveiling forces a confrontation with what lies beneath, leaving the final image intentionally ambiguous and open to shifting emotional interpretations.

My mixed-media works incorporate vintage 1940s Fortune magazines and 1950s–1970s Haggadahs. By juxtaposing mid-century liquor and cigarette advertisements with sacred and historical texts, I obscure linear narratives. I pair monotone color fields with a contrast of hard-edge and soft-edge lines to evoke dualistic emotional states—moving fluidly between solitude and raw energy, peace and excitement. Ultimately, my art captures the fundamental human experience of shedding old skins. It is an exploration of resilience, evolution, and the inevitable cycle of peeling away the past to discover solace in the new.

I also enjoy working on commissioned pieces as well. Please don’t hesitate to inquire about a custom piece just for you.
